Portion Guide 

The portion guides below shows the approximate number of portions a single tier round or square cake will provide.

A typical serving is 1″ x 2″ for celebration cakes (party portion) and 1″ x 1″ for wedding cakes (wedding portion). I love playing around with different depth tiers to create different looks, so the depth of your servings will vary, but are generally between 3″ to 6″ deep.

All of the wedding and celebration cakes which I make are bespoke, so prices will vary depending on the size of the cake and the complexity of the design.  

With so many variables affecting the price I think starting prices can therefore be a bit misleading, so the pricing guide below shows you the average prices you would expect to pay for one of my cakes. 

Please note that fruit cakes and labour intensive designs with lots of sugar work (such as ruffles and sugar flowers) are likely to exceed these average prices,  As the more elaborate the design, the more you can expect to pay.

Having a mixture of dummy and real tiers will reduce the price slightly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance do I have to order my cake?

As it is only myself who designs, bakes and decorates all of the cakes at CakeBuds, I am only able to take on a maximum of one order per week to maintain my high standards. It is also worth bearing in mind that all wedding and celebration cakes require planning, therefore I would prefer as much notice as possible. Although sometimes, I may be able to accommodate a cake at shorter notice, so please do always ask. If you wish to book your cake early but are unsure of the design or colours, this is not a problem. Final consultations can take place at a later date.

Do you offer cake consultations / cake tasting sessions?

Yes! I hold regular Tasting Consultations throughout the year. Your Tasting Consultation is a fantastic opportunity for us to meet and discuss the design of your wedding cake in relation to the size, shape and decoration. You can look at my display cakes to get a feel for what certain cake decorating techniques look like in real life and most importantly you will be able to taste a selection of cake flavours from my menu. My Tasting Consultations cost between £15-£30 per person. More information about what is included can be found here.

Can you send me a Tasting Box if I cannot attend one of your Tasting Consultations?

Yes! I have set dates throughout the year where I send out Tasting Boxes. These are a fantastic opportunity for you to taste my cakes in the comfort of your own home if you are unable to attend one of my Tasting Consultations. Each Tasting Box contains 5 different flavours and costs £40. More information about what is included can be found here. If you then go ahead and book your wedding or celebration cake with me following receipt of a Tasting Box you can choose either a complimentary Signature Tasting Consultation or for the £40 to be deducted from your final balance.

I have seen a picture of a cake online. Can you copy this?

I can definitely use images of other cakes to get a feel for the different styles and elements you like, but I do not copy other cake designers cakes. Inspiration is everywhere and I love using my creativity to create unique edible pieces of art for my couples. Plus, do you really want a cake which is the same as someone else’s when you could have something designed completely unique for you?

How long is my quotation valid for?

The price stated on your quotation is valid for a period of three months. If you choose to proceed with your booking after this period the prices are subject to change as I am subject to price increases from suppliers. 

How do I secure my booking?

All wedding cakes require a £100 booking fee to secure your booking. All celebration cakes require a £50 booking fee to secure your booking. No booking is confirmed until a booking fee has been received. This booking fee is non refundable and non transferable should you cancel your order for any reason. Short notice orders that are placed within six weeks for wedding cakes and two weeks for celebration cakes are an exception to this and must be paid in full upon ordering.

When is the final balance due?

For wedding cakes, the final balance must be cleared 6 weeks before collection or delivery of your wedding cake.

For celebration cakes, the final balance must be cleared 2 weeks before collection or delivery of your cake.

All late payments will incur a £25 charge. If full payment is not received two/six weeks before the delivery/collection date, it is assumed that the cake has been cancelled. The cancellation policy therefore applies in all cases. If after the two/six week period you try to make payment, I reserve the right to refuse your order in all cases with complete loss of any monies previously paid. 

How do I pay for my cake?

You can pay for your cake in person by cash, or by an online bank transfer. My bank details will be provided to you at the time of booking.

Do you offer a delivery and set up service?

Yes! If you would like your cake delivered and set up to ensure peace of mind this can be arranged.  

I offer a free delivery service for all orders over £500 within a 50 mile radius from my home. A delivery charge of 45p per mile applies to all orders under £500 or for each mile in excess of 50 miles. Please note that, if no one is available to receive the cake at the agreed delivery time, your order will be returned to my business and I will contact you to arrange an alternative delivery time; for which a charge will be payable.

For cakes which need to be constructed and set up at your venue on the day of your event, set up is free of charge for all orders over £500. A minimum set-up fee of £30 will apply to all orders under £500.

Can I collect my order?

Yes – but only for cakes which are 3 tiers or below. My cakes are always carefully boxed and can be collected from my home in Hampshire.  I would always recommend collecting your cake in a vehicle as tiered cakes can be very heavy. A signature is needed for cake collections, confirming that you have received your order in good condition and as specified. Please be aware that once the cake has left my premises, I cannot be held responsible for any damage which may occur to the cake whilst in your care. Cakes which are four tiers or more will need to be constructed by myself at your venue on the day of your event. 

What happens if I have to cancel my order?

In the event of a cancellation by yourselves, any payments previously made are non refundable and the following charges apply: 

More than ninety date prior to the event date = booking fee only.

Ninety days to 6 weeks prior to the event date = booking fee plus half the remaining cost.

Less than 6 weeks prior to the date = full amount.

If, for any reason you need to re-arrange your occasion date, I will try my best to accommodate these changes but cannot guarantee to be able to do so. Subject to availability I will carry the monies paid forward to the new occasion date. Please be aware that I will only do this on one occasion. Any further postponements will be classed as a cancellation. In the event of postponement, the payment due dates remain the same as a cancellation. I highly suggest that you take out wedding insurance to cover all eventualities.

How long will my cake keep for?

Your cake will be baked as close to your delivery/collection day as possible to ensure quality and freshness. I advise that all cakes must be consumed within 48 hours from collection/delivery. I cannot be held responsible for any cakes consumed after these timings.

Where should I store my cake?

Cakes should be stored at room temperature, but away from direct sunlight, radiators or other sources of heat. I do not recommend keeping your cake in the fridge or somewhere cold as it will not only make the fondant icing sweat, but it will also dry out the cake. For fondant covered cakes, cold temperatures will also cause condensation to form on the surface of the icing, ruins colours, pipe work, edible lace and any sugar flowers or moulds.

Do you hire out cake stands?

I currently have a small selection of cake stands which can be hired out. A £10 hire fee plus a minimum £50 security deposit is required in advance per cake stand. It is the customers responsibility to return the cake stand/s to my address within 4 working days. If the cake stand is returned to me after 4 working days, a late return fee of £5 per day per cake stand will be applied. The security deposit will not be refunded in the event the stand/s is/are damaged.


Can I use fresh flowers on my cake?

Yes I can supply fresh flowers for your cake. I use a company called Maddock Farm Organics to supply me with real flowers for your cake. Maddock Farm Organics grow superb award winning edible flowers and organic garnishes. I only use Maddock Farm Organics to ensure that all the flowers are safe to be in contact with your cake. If you wished to use your own flowers from your florist, this is at your own risk. As some flowers are not suitable for use on cakes, it is your responsibility to ensure that the flowers you choose are safe to come into contact with food. I am not responsible for any contamination caused to the cake due to the use of your own flowers.

Can the decorations on my cake be eaten?

I try my best to ensure that my cakes are fully edible. However some of my cakes will sometimes contain non edible items such as plastic rods (for stability in tiered cakes), ribbons, flowers, wires, feathers etc. I will provide a list of non edible items on your cake at time of delivery/collection. All non-edible items must be removed before serving and I accept no responsibility for any harm these items may cause.

Can you make cakes suitable for people with food allergies?

This depends on the allergy. I do offer a selection of gluten and dairy free sponge cakes. With regards to nut allergies, I can take orders for these, but please bear in mind that I do have nuts on the premises, therefore I cannot 100% guarantee they will not contain nut traces. For this reason I will have to ask you to sign a disclaimer stating you are happy to go ahead on that basis. Unfortunately I cannot cater for any other allergies at this time.

What is your returns policy?

Due to the bespoke and perishable nature of my cakes, they are non refundable. However, if damage does occur at the irrefutable fault of my business, a partial or full refund may be given. This will be determined on an individual basis. Proof must be provided within 24 hours either in person or by way of pictorial evidence. Once the cake has been cut and served, this will signify your acceptance that the cake was fit for purpose and no compensation will be given. 

Why are wedding and celebration cakes so expensive?

It’s easy to think that a cake is just eggs, butter, sugar and flour and therefore should be cheaper, but when you buy a bespoke handcrafted cake you are paying for much more than just the ingredients. Custom made cakes are works of art and can take days, or even weeks to complete. Even the simplest of cakes take 10 to 15 hours to create, with much more elaborate designs taking 35+ hours. If you have a budget in mind then please let me know as this skips a lot of the “Wow, that’s expensive” or the “I can’t afford that”. I can then work with you to design a cake to fit your particular budget.
